Apple cuts 200+ jobs in Siri and Vision Pro restructure

Bloomberg reports Apple eliminated roughly 200 roles across Vision Pro and Siri teams as it shifts engineering resources toward new devices and AI work.

2 September 2026

Apple has eliminated roughly 200 positions across its Siri and Vision Pro organisations as it realigns engineering resources toward new devices and AI initiatives.

On August 21, 2026, Bloomberg reported the reductions affected about 100 roles within the Vision Pro organisation — notably on gaming and immersive video teams — and roughly 100 roles across Siri and related AI and software groups. The cuts, which sources said span multiple U.S. Apple campuses, follow an internal shift in priorities toward device-level AI integration and next‑generation product work.

The move is a clear example of product-driven restructuring in the tech sector. For Apple, which has publicly emphasised the Vision Pro as a new hardware platform while signalling heavier investment in generative AI and on‑device intelligence, reallocating staff from experimental app and content teams into core device and AI engineering is a strategic pivot. Insiders told Bloomberg that leaders are consolidating teams to refocus headcount on long‑term platform development rather than standalone experiences.

HR leaders at large technology employers will recognise the operational pressure this creates: immediate outplacement, severance and redeployment planning; review of contractor and vendor relationships; and a likely bump in internal recruiting for specialised AI engineering roles. Apple’s internal mobility processes and the terms of any severance or transition support will determine whether affected engineers stay within the company or exit to competitors and startups focused on AI-enabled products.

The cuts also have knock‑on effects for vendors and partners. Teams working on immersive video and gaming frequently lean on external studios and platform partners; a reduction in in‑house capacity can prompt renegotiation of contracts or shift work back to third parties. Recruiters in the market said they expect near‑term demand for certain Vision Pro skills to soften while demand for ML engineers and systems‑level AI experience accelerates.

This restructuring mirrors a broader industry tilt. Over the past two years, large tech firms have been reallocating resources from fringe product bets to AI and platform integration as generative models and on‑device intelligence become central to product roadmaps. For employers, that has meant a steady redefinition of role families and skills frameworks inside engineering organisations, and more frequent alignment between product strategy and workforce planning.

What wasn’t disclosed: publicly available reports do not specify the exact selection criteria used to identify roles for elimination, the geographic distribution beyond “U.S. campuses,” or the severance, outplacement or internal‑redeployment packages offered to affected staff. Apple has not detailed whether any of the eliminated roles will be rehired under different job codes, how vendor contracts will be amended, or whether the company conducted bias and fairness reviews in deciding which positions to cut.

For HR teams, the Apple move underscores a continuing workplace‑AI dynamic: as companies prioritise AI capabilities, they will increasingly revisit skills mixes, organisational structures and vendor dependencies. The immediate challenge for employers is managing people risk — retention of scarce AI talent, transparent selection and support for those leaving, and clear reskilling pathways for employees whose work is being deprioritised — while simultaneously accelerating product roadmaps that hinge on AI integration.
